El Camino Real: The Texas Act is a ~330-mile back-roads route from San Augustine to San Antonio on TX 21 and OSR, driven in 3–4 days, that stays off I-45 / I-35 in the region the atlas calls Beyond the Sabine.
The Camino Real de los Tejas carried Spain into Texas three centuries ago, and TX 21 still shadows it: mission sites in the piney woods, the oldest town in Texas, a Caddo mound city a thousand years older than any of it, the isolated Lost Pines at Bastrop, and the spring-fed headwaters at San Marcos, ending where the road always ended, at the missions of San Antonio. The El Camino East/West route runs the Louisiana act; this is the finale.
