# A Gulf Coast Seafood Drive on US 90

*Oysters, royal reds and working docks from New Orleans to Pensacola*

US 90 stays close to the water that feeds the Gulf Coast. Between New Orleans and Pensacola, the old road passes shrimp fleets, oyster reefs, charter docks and markets where the useful question is not “What is famous?” but “What came in today?”

## Why US 90 is the Gulf's seafood road

I-10 carries traffic behind the coast; US 90 follows the bays and beach towns themselves. Louisiana cooking travels east into Mississippi, Mobile Bay adds its own oyster and crab traditions, and Alabama's charter fleet leads naturally to the deep-water royal red shrimp sold around Pensacola.

## Mobile Bay to the Florida line

Pause at Mobile's Dew Drop Inn for an old local institution, then choose a side of the bay. The Fort Morgan–Dauphin Island ferry can turn the coast into a loop when weather allows. Farther east, Orange Beach's charter fleet and Pensacola's Joe Patti's market put the working Gulf on display.

## A two-day seafood itinerary

Spend day one crossing the Mississippi Sound through Bay St. Louis, Biloxi and Ocean Springs. On day two, give Mobile Bay time before continuing to Orange Beach and Pensacola. Ask about season and origin, leave room for a museum or barrier-island walk, and add a third day if you take the ferry loop.
